Panglao Island, October 23, 2017 – If this weekend’s weather wasn’t an indication of the intensity of this year’s Tour de Cebu, then we don’t know what is!
Tour de Cebu is a 1000-km touristic rally across the Visayas showcasing vintage sports car manufactured 1972 or prior with a few exception for the sportsman class with cars manufactured up to 1978 for this year’s rally. This is the only vintage sports car rally in the Philippines where the goal is not arriving first, but arriving at the predetermined time given to each participant with each day’s stages ending at BE Grand Resort, Bohol.
From the build-up to the awarding — Tour de Cebu just gets bigger and better every year and just minutes after wrapping up the fourth tour, 5th Tour de Cebu is already being anticipated. “I’m already thinking about what car I’m going to bring & already looking forward to next year’s event”, raved Michael Lhuillier, President & CEO of M. Lhuillier Group of Companies.
The flag-off at BE Grand Resort was just as sweet and heartwarming as last year’s with students from Panglao’s Danao Elementary lined up at the driveway to bid farewell to the participants. For days of heavy rain and strong winds, the final flag-off day was a perfect weather of sun and soft breeze as they head back to Cebu for the awarding.
For the 2nd time in a row, this year’s Grand Champion is Martin Aguilar on his 1957 Porsche 356A. New awards were also introduced including the Roberto Aboitiz Excellence Class award, in honor & memory of Bobby Aboitiz, which was also awarded to Martin Aguilar who, coincidentally, was sporting the same race number,32, as Aboitiz did.
“This is not a farewell or a goodbye dinner but rather, a ‘see you soon’. We thank you for choosing us to be your home for the past two years. We hope that you’ll keep choosing BE [Resorts] to keep hosting the next events”, said Grand Benedicto, BE Resorts President and long-time PACE Member.
While the next location is not yet announced, the 5th Tour de Cebu will be on September 21-23, 2018.
BE Resorts Group of Hotels is owned and managed by Cebu-based property developer Enrison Land, Inc. (ELI), a family-owned corporation that shares the values of Filipino excellence for global recognition. BE Resorts currently operates two hotels, namely BE Resort, Mactan and BE Grand Resort, Bohol.
